How to Submit Abstracts

Each member of ISSI may list up to three unpublished papers online (including papers currently "in press"). Abstracts will be posted in the ISSI listing for one year or until the paper is published, whichever comes first.

To submit abstracts, authors should send an e-mail message to r.gramzow@neu.edu. This message must provide the citation for the paper in APA style and be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 150 words. Authors must also provide the e-mail and postal addresses to which requests for the entire paper may be sent. If the paper is posted in its entirety on the world wide web (for example, in the author's home page), the web page (URL) address should also be given. The author should also indicate in which of the above nine topic categories the paper should be listed (see list below). A sample of an abstract submission appears below:

(Topic category 3: Self-Evaluation and Self-Esteem)

Haupt, A. L., & Leary, M. R. (1996). The appeal of worthless groups: Moderating effects of trait self-esteem. Unpublished manuscript, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC.

Abstract. One-hundred and fourteen undergraduate students who had completed a measure of trait self-esteem expressed their preference for working in a small group versus alone on a task that was described as relatively worthless or worthwhile. In addition, they believed that, if they worked with the group, they might later be removed from the group either randomly or by a vote of the group members. Participants low in trait self-esteem preferred working with the worthless more than the worthwhile group, whereas high self-esteem participants showed the opposite effect. In addition, the mere possibility of being excluded by the group lowered the state self-esteem of participants who were low in trait self-esteem but raised the self-esteem of high self- esteem participants.
