Psychology Minor Requirements

Five courses are required for a minor in psychology (=20 SH of PSY credits). The specific course requirements are presented below with the restrictions noted. Please contact Professor Block if you have any questions about the psychology minor.

 One Introductory Course

Foundations of Psychology (PSY U101) or equivalent

Two Courses From Topic Areas A and B (select one from each area)

Area A (select one):
Social Psychology (PSY U402)
Personality (PSY U400)
Abnormal Psychology (PSY U406)
Developmental Psychology (PSY U404)

Area B (select one):

Note: The Area A and B courses must be NU department courses; no transfer courses can be used to fulfill this particular requirement. If a transfer course is similar to the department’s course, the transferred course will be used as a psychology elective course and a different Area A or B course offered by the department must be taken.

 Two Other Psychology Courses

Additional Area A or B courses can be used to fulfill this requirement.

 Restrictions

• Satisfactory (S) grades are not allowed for minor courses.

• There are no course substitutions for the minor (as there are for the major); all courses must be psychology courses. This prohibition does not apply to students who petitioned for a course substitution before the fall 2003 semester.
